What is an Internet Gateway? An internet gateway provider is an online software that acts like a Point of Sale Terminal. The only difference is that is completely electronic. It allows your website to accept payments online or electronically and interfaces with approval network for all transactions. The gateway receives a payment request from your site, and then goes and verifies the transaction with the authorization network (i.e. approval network) so that funds can be transferred to your bank account.
